Living Nature Manuka Honey Gel

Over the past year I really tried my best to find green alternatives to my previous favourites. So when I was asked to choose a product to try from Living Nature by the awesome people at Botanical Brands, I tried to pick something that I deemed affordable (£11.50 for 10ml) and it had to be an item that I needed. I'm trying to get rid of excess people! Living Nature Manuka Honey Gel it was!

I had been using lavender oil or good old tea tree oil on my spots. Spots tend to make their timely arrival when I'm sure all ladies get them, also when I've been eating all the crap and also when I'm stressed.

What they say:

"Manuka Honey Gel is a soothing gel for blemish-prone skin and trouble spots. This potent blend combines healing Active Manuka Honey with protective Manuka Oil to help cleanse, soothe and heal the skin. Active Manuka Honey is one of nature's miracle healers, and anti-microbial Manuka Oil is a super protector - both with proven skin benefits"

What's in it:

Aqua (water), Mel (manuka honey), Leptospermum scoparium (manuka) oil, Xanthan gum, Phormium tenax extract (NZ flax gel), Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E).

In all honesty, I have had this for a while and I didn't really love it. But, I didn't really hate it either. Without being too gross the type of spots that I get are either small and go away by themselves quickly or they will be deep-rooted, fleshy, bright red sore spots. This manuka gel didn't noticeably reduce the size of the larger spots (which are the ones that bother me the most!). I do think however that it did calm down the redness.

I found that if I repeatedly applied it then the gel had a better affect. Although on make up days, I couldn't do this, so application really only happened at night time and then before bed.

One other thing, it does smell. Not bad, but it is strong enough to get a whiff for a while after your have applied it. The gel consistency is nice but does not set or harden fully.

I'm not sure that I would buy a replacement but I do have my eye on the pure manuka honey to see if that would make a bigger difference!

Have you tried the Living Nature Gel?
Got any spot fighting secrets for me?

  1. I like putting this on for around half an hour and then gently washing it off & it helps with redness :)

  2. I haven't tried this particular Living Nature product (though I am generally a fan). Personally, I tend to find that a blend of rosemary and lavender oils works best for monthly spots. Think a good quality manuka honey sounds a good idea x

  3. I like Living Nature products, but it's a shame it didn't work for you. I always find spots are bit tricky to get the exact right product to help x

  4. That's a shame, I've found that not many spot products work, I have quite a few DIYs I reach for and, of course, Indie Lee! Her products never fail to deliver... if you want to zap a nasty spot you need her blemish stick or lotion. It's a big cost but I don't regret it at all.

  5. I am a fan of honey as well and am always on the lookout for clear skin tips as a acne struggler. I've recently been able to try the Osmia Organics Spot Treatment and Dr. Alkaitis Soothing Gel, which have both helped me extremely. I've also heard good things about the Kypris Clearing Serum, new Pai serum, the products from skinnyskinny, and YÜLI. Sorry for the deluge of reccomendations!
